For reasons that probably hover between necessity, curiosity and boredom, Artists often find themselves ahead of trends, sometimes being compared to truffle pigs.
Gustav Klimt was one of those Artists on the avant-garde and one of the few who got well-rewarded for it. “The Kiss” was, and remains, one of the most valued paintings in history. But it wasn’t without any risk to the painter at the time; Klimt, along with other daring Artists, broke away from the comfort zone of their time. They became the locomotive of movements such as the Vienna Secession movement and Art- Nouveau. Perhaps their audacity even influenced other Artists-driven movements such as “Les Automatistes” in Canada?
In any case, very few truffle pigs get to die rich like Gustav Klimt…
