What do we find beautiful? Could our perception of beauty be linked to our recognition of something’s role in our survival? Bright colors emote health, energy and power; flowers, the human form and lush sceneries evoke anything from fertility, tranquility to a feeling of security.

Flowers occupy a big place in art. With their near-infinite colours, shapes and symbolism, they appear in floral paintings, home decor and garments. Flowers in portraits have been used to add meaning to the subjects.

As the plant’s reproductive organs, flowers often indicate that a plant is about to produce food. So do we find them pretty because they evoke fertility and survival in us? What does that say about your Aunt’s taste in wallpaper?
